MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The Western Plains Opera Company in Minot has a new executive director.

KXMC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1L2MsL8 ) that Minot State University Division of Music Chairman Kenneth Bowles is handing the reins to Mark McQuade. McQuade previously worked at Oklahoma Baptist University and now is an associate professor of music at MSU.

Bowles led the opera for 21 years, overseeing more than 20 productions. He says he’s “moving over to make room for some new blood, new ideas and new energy.”

McQuade says he wants to keep some of the tradition that Bowles created but also intends to make the opera a larger show for the community.
