COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Two of South Carolina’s state House members are helping raise awareness for an effort to raise money for the state’s school children to have formal music lessons.

On Monday, Reps. James Smith and Rick Quinn are appearing at a news conference in Columbia to promote the upcoming Freeway Music Festival.

That event is scheduled for August 29 at the Music Farm in Columbia. It helps provide scholarships for children with musical talent who can’t afford lessons.

Organizers are still looking for additional sponsors for the event, which last year raised over $7,000 for music scholarships.

Smith is planning to join event organizers on-stage during Monday’s news conference for a musical performance.
