DADEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 10-year-old Alexander City girl has died after being hit by a truck while trying to cross a Dadeville highway.

The Alexander City Outlook reports (https://bit.ly/1NcPVdg ) that the girl was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old Dadeville driver on Friday night.

Dadeville Police Chief David Barbour says the girl was trying to cross the road to reach her aunt, who was waiting to pick her up.

Barbour says neither excessive speed nor alcohol is thought to be involved in the crash.

Barbour said there were no charges filed, but said due to the ages of those involved, names would not be released until the investigation is complete.
