GILBERTVILLE, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa man faces charges after authorities say he drove his car into a lake and reported it stolen.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Curtis Breitbach, of Gilbertville, faces several charges, including filing a false report and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report Sunday about a stolen vehicle in Gilbertville shortly after police in Cedar Falls began investigating a report of a car possibly inside a lake.

Authorities say they removed the car from Big Woods Lake and during an investigation, determined that Breitbach was speeding and lost control of his car. He is accused of causing property damage before the car went into the lake.

Court records do not list an attorney for Breitbach.
