JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Consumers Energy is moving forward with plans to add new sources of renewable energy in Michigan, launching a community solar program.

The unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. says Monday that Solar Gardens is the first program of its kind for Consumers Energy. The utility says Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University are potential sites for solar facilities that could start operating next year.

Consumers Energy customers will be able to enroll in the Solar Gardens program later this year. Additional details will be posted online.
