SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police say a Savannah man is dead after his car crashed into a logging truck and got struck by a pickup truck on the Talmadge Memorial Bridge spanning the Savannah River.

Savannah-Chatham County police said 35-year-old Jerry Hampton was killed in the crash shortly after 4 a.m. Monday. Police said Hampton was crossing the bridge when his car ran into the back of a logging truck. Hampton’s car was then hit by the pickup.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital. Firefighters were called to extinguish Hampton’s car after it burst into flames.

Police said the crash stalled traffic across the bridge, which connects Savannah to neighboring South Carolina, for several hours.
