ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Former Orlando police chief Val Demings is running for Congress again. This time, the Democrat has redistricting on her side.

Demings announced she is running for the 10th congressional district Monday in the middle of a special session where Florida legislators are drawing a new congressional map.

Their proposal would make it harder for Republicans to win the seat currently held by Republican Daniel Webster. He said last week he was unsure if he would run again.

Demings lost to Webster in 2012 by 3 percentage points.

She tells The Associated Press that she is a wiser candidate than she was three years ago.

She says the reshaped district is good news, and she is motivated by the same issues as three years ago, including providing opportunities for working families.
