WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Two shootings in Worcester have left one man dead and another in the hospital.

Police say officers responded to an intersection late Sunday for a report of an assault. A group of people on the sidewalk directed police to a grassy area next to an apartment complex where they found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police also found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound outside a convenience store early Monday. He is expected to survive.

There is no indication that the shootings are related.

The death was Worcester’s fifth homicide of the year.
