WINTER PARK, Fla. (AP) - Protesters have demonstrated in front of the home of a man they say shot a dog in the eye.

WFTV-TV (https://bit.ly/1Pub1Sy ) reports that about a dozen protesters and their dogs marched through Winter Park on Sunday while chanting, “Paws up, don’t shoot.”

The protesters say 70-year-old George Burdock shot a Samoyed named Lilly while Burdock was walking his dogs Thursday. The protesters say he should be charged with animal cruelty. Lilly lost her eye in the shooting.

Burdock says he was acting in self-defense after the dog got away from its owner and began charging at him and his dogs. He says he had brought a gun filled with BBs because the dog had lunged at him before.

Burdock has placed several “no trespassing” signs in his yard since the incident.
