BRIGHTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old girl was killed in a car crash in northern Vermont.

It happened around 12 p.m. Sunday on Route 114 in Brighton. Police say 25-year-old Christina Deslandes, of Island Pond, was driving northbound when her car crossed both the center line and southbound lane and hit a telephone pole.

Police say neither Deslandes nor the child wore a seatbelt. They say the girl was not restrained in a child seat.

Both were taken to North Country Hospital where Deslandes was treated for minor injuries.

Police say the child died in the hospital’s emergency room. Her identity has not been released.

The crash is under investigation.
