WAUPACA, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say a 42-year-old man has died in a crash after being involved in a chase with law enforcement in central Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says a Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department deputy tried to stop a vehicle driving recklessly in Waupaca shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. The State Patrol says the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and the deputy pursued it.

According to the State Patrol, the vehicle later went off the roadway and hit a culvert. Post-Crescent Media and WLUK-TV report the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The Waupaca County coroner pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His name was not released.
