SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say San Jose police have shot and killed a suspect who allegedly reached for a gun in front of officers.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1E01qBL ) the shooting happened Sunday at a strip mall near East Capitol Expressway at about 10:10 p.m.

Authorities say police had been conducting a follow-up investigation when they encountered a man who brandished a gun at them.

An officer at the scene reported on the radio that shots had been fired. The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, died at the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.



The latest shooting in San Jose marks the third time police in the city have opened fire in a little more than a week and comes days after police shot and killed suspects in Oakland and Sunnyvale.
