PHOENIX (AP) - A section of U.S. 60 near Superior will be closed for 90 minutes Wednesday morning for a blasting operation that’s part of a project to build a new passing lane and widen roadway shoulders.

State transportation officials say people traveling between Phoenix and Globe from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday should allow for extra traveling time.

During the blasting operation, eastbound traffic will stop east of Superior and westbound traffic will stop west of Miami.

Transportation officials expect the highway to be briefly closed at least once a week for blasting operations in the coming months.
