MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A transient is being held on $750,000 bond after being accused of fatally stabbing her cousin with scissors in Mesa.

Cindy Campagne didn’t have a lawyer at her initial court appearance Monday.

She remains jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Mesa police went to a home around 5 a.m. Sunday and found 40-year-old Maria Valdez-De Campagne dead and covered with blood in a driveway.

They also say the 35-year-old Campagne also was covered in blood.

A witness who called 911 reported seeing Campagne lying on top of the victim and later hiding behind a vehicle in the driveway after taking off her shirt.

Valdez-De Campagne’s husband told police that Campagne had a long history of mental illness in New York State, where she had been committed three times for depression.
