PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Maj. Gen. Darrell K. Williams has taken over as base commander at Fort Lee in Virginia.

Fort Lee says Williams also will oversee the Army’s Combined Arms Support Command. He is a 32-year Quartermaster Corps officer with extensive experience in logistical support for deployed troops.

He replaces Maj. Gen. Stephen R. Lyons, who had taken over as base commander last August. Lyons was selected for promotion to lieutenant general and as the deputy commanding general for the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

A change-of-command ceremony was held at Fort Lee on Friday.
