CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have accused a woman of abducting a 10-month-old baby from her mother.

Local media outlets report that 22-year-old Sharlornai Reid asked to hold the young daughter of Keiry Matute while in front of Matute’s Charlotte house on Saturday. Matute says Reid distracted her and then took off running with the baby and drove off.

Reid was arrested a few hours later in Charlotte on an unrelated larceny charge from Buncombe County. The baby was returned to her mother unharmed.

Authorities say they plan to charge Reid with child abduction and assault with a deadly weapon when she gets out of the hospital. It is unclear why Reid was hospitalized.

It was not immediately clear if Reid has an attorney.
