EDEN, Vt. (AP) - Two Vermont men are accused of kidnapping and beating another man in Eden.

Witnesses told Vermont State Police that the 29-year-old Andrew Philip assaulted the victim late Sunday night and forced him into an SUV driven by 18-year-old Matthew Hosford. Police say the victim tried several times to jump from the moving vehicle but was restrained.

As officers responded, authorities say Philip and Hosford abandoned the vehicle, allowing the victim to escape. They were arrested Tuesday and charged with kidnapping, simple assault and interference with access to emergency services.

Philip, who is from Johnson, and Hosford, of Eden, are due in court Aug. 26. The court had no information Tuesday about whether they have lawyers.
