AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An Augusta man is on trial charged with setting a woman on fire after sexually assaulting her.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1MuAPhH ) 31-year-old Ronnie Jones has been jailed since he was charged with aggravated battery and rape a year ago. Jones told investigators the fire was an accident and the woman was angry with him for getting someone else pregnant.

The first day of Jones’ trial Monday was devoted mostly to dealing with his complaints challenging the fairness of the court proceedings. Jones has insisted he needs a mannequin wearing the woman’s clothing to demonstrate what happened to her.

Authorities say the women suffered second and third-degree burns that left her with severe nerve damage.
