SANDSTONE, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities have identified a hiker who died after falling off a cliff overlooking the New River.

Dave Bieri with the New River Gorge National River says 26-year-old Felicia Redden of Cool Ridge was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bieri tells media outlets that Redden was hiking with 20-year-old Cody Buckland of Beaver on Sunday night when they both slipped and fell near Sandstone Falls Overlook in Summers County. Emergency responders found the pair about 80 feet below the trail.

Bieri says Buckland suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

He says Redden and Buckland were attempting to hike from the overlook down to the river when they fell.
