CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A bond hearing is set for a white former North Charleston policeman charged in the death of a black motorist in a shooting captured on cellphone video.

An Aug. 27 hearing has been scheduled for Michael Slager.

Attorneys for Slager said in court filings that their client poses little danger to the community and little risk of fleeing.

Slager faces a murder charge in the April 4 shooting death of 50-year-old Walter Scott. A bystander’s cellphone video showed Slager firing eight times as Scott tried to run from a traffic stop.

The Associated Press left a message with the local prosecutor seeking comment.
