BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) - Brunswick County is standing firm in its support of offshore seismic testing for oil and natural gas, even as dozens of other communities in the Carolinas have gone on record against the idea.

Last month, the county board of commissioners passed a resolution supporting testing. Local media outlets report that on Monday, the panel rejected an attempt to change its stance.

On a tie vote, a resolution that would have opposed offshore testing failed to pass. About 80 people, many of them opposed to offshore drilling, attended the meeting.

Board chairman Scott Phillips says he’s always been one to welcome more information on an issue. But Phillips says that since last month, he has not received any information to make him change his mind.
