CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The Casper City Council has spent $177,000 in its legal battle with a former councilman who was accused of ethics violations and has been involved in two separate lawsuits against the city.

According to data provided to The Casper Star-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1PiWCrS) in response to a public records request, the growing sum has gone to outside attorneys to investigate former Councilman Craig Hedquist and to defend the city against his lawsuits.

During his time in office, Hedquist was the subject of two city-launched investigations in 2013.

In a workplace violence complaint he was accused of using harsh words against another city employee. He was also accused of having a conflict-of-interest by working both as a councilmember and the owner of a construction company that contracted with the city.
