ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - An Asheville construction worker has climbed to the top of a crane to remove a Confederate flag that had been placed there.

The Asheville Citizen-Times (https://avlne.ws/1Lhjry6 ) reports that members of the public on Monday noticed the flag atop the crane, which is being used to build a downtown Marriott-owned hotel.

Onlooker Jason Holland says he used Twitter to alert Marriott of the presence of the battle flag and called Yates Construction company, the crane’s operator. The flag was replaced with a U.S. flag after Holland sent Yates photos of the banner.

Yates representatives couldn’t be reached for comment by the newspaper.

The Marriott-branded “AC Hotel” is scheduled to open in the summer of 2016 after the completion of the $20 million construction project.
