PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 67-year-old homeless man who admitted to bludgeoning a man to death 23 years after the crime has been sentenced to three decades behind bars.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1J2jlod ) Superior Court Judge Kristin Rodgers handed down the sentence against 67-year-old Daniel Serrano on Monday.

Serrano walked into Providence police headquarters in December 2013 and confessed to beating 32-year-old Michael Holliday to death in 1990. Holliday’s body was found in a vacant apartment in February 1990.

Police say Serrano told them things that only the killer would know. Police say Serrano told them he mistook Holliday for another man he wanted to kill for harassing him.
