LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Lake Charles man has pleaded no contest to one count of forcible rape in a 1991 case that took 22 years before an arrest was made.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) Joseph Herbert Bargeman is accused of attacking an 18-year-old woman on May 30, 1991, at a restaurant, forcing her into the backseat of her vehicle and driving her to a boat launch, where he stripped her of her clothing and raped her.

The victim was able to get away, but it wasn’t until 2013 that Bargeman was identified as the suspect.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus told the American Press in 2013 the arrest came after Lake Charles police submitted DNA samples from the case to the Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab.

Sentencing has been set for Dec. 16
