CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - One of the leaders of a violent Atlantic City street gang and his brother have been convicted of drug conspiracy and weapons charges.

Mykal and Malik Derry were convicted Tuesday after a six-week trial in federal court in Camden.

Mykal Derry was a leader of the street gang known as “Dirty Block,” ”Crime Fam,” ”,” or “3.6.” He directed the gang’s drug distribution activities, while Malik acted as an enforcer.

Prosecutors say the gang controlled heroin sales through gun violence, including at least one homicide.

Authorities say ring members distributed heroin in and around several public housing complexes in Atlantic City.

Thirty-four people have been accused of roles in the ring and more than 20 have either been convicted or pleaded guilty.
