OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (AP) - A farm owner on Long Island has been charged with neglecting dozens of animals, including horses, donkeys and goats.

The Nassau County district attorney’s office says 54 year-old Michael Dombek was arrested Tuesday on charges of failure to provide proper sustenance.

Authorities say investigators made several visits to the farm in Old Westbury and found various animals that were emaciated and living in “poor and unsafe living conditions.” They say one donkey in a manure-filled paddock had open wounds on his legs.

A veterinarian treated the animals and five of them were removed for special care.

Dombek faces up to a year in jail if convicted. He’s due back in court Sept. 4.

Information on his lawyer was not immediately available.
