MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A police department in metro Atlanta is planning a seminar on gun safety for the general public.

The Marietta Police Department says its training unit will host the free firearm safety course the evening of Sept. 8. Police Lt. Jake King says the seminar was developed to help citizens “feel confident owning and handling a firearm” or other types of weapons.

Police say the course will cover Georgia gun laws and recommended weapons for home defense. In addition to information on guns, the seminar will cover use of stun guns and pepper spray.
