MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Mesa police say a man who was shot and killed during a home invasion had reportedly been acting erratically days before the incident.

Officers responded to a farmhouse south of Loop 202 before dawn last Friday after a woman awoke to find a stranger in her bedroom.

Police released more details Tuesday, saying the woman screamed for her husband who was sleeping in another part of the house. Her sons, who live in separate residences nearby, also responded.

The intruder, identified as Daniel Kresowaty, shouted at the residents and began throwing chairs and knives at them. One son shot at the man.

Officers found Kresowaty dead in the kitchen and the woman locked in her room.

They found Kresowaty’s car abandoned and on fire near the farmhouse and reported that his home in Gilbert was in disarray.
