MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - The mayor of Milledgeville says a rash of drive-by shootings in his community “sounds like turf war,” though he doesn’t know whether gangs are to blame.

Authorities in the middle Georgia city of about 18,000 say at least 14 drive-by shootings have occurred in the past two months in Milledgeville and surrounding Baldwin County. Only two people have been injured. Most of the shootings damaged only homes or vehicles.

Police and sheriff’s investigators have said they suspect at least some of the drive-by shootings were gang related. Mayor Gary Thrower told WMAZ-TV (https://on.wmaz.com/1LhAsoV ): “I don’t know if it’s gang related or not.”

The mayor said city officials are taking the shootings “extremely seriously.”
