BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Prosecutors have filed child cruelty and drug charges against the mother of a 15-year-old boy who police say weighed just 47 pounds when an officer found him last month.

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III told The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1Eyu1ZZ ) on Monday that the boy is still hospitalized.

Forty-nine-year-old Rose Holland is charged with possession of cocaine and second-degree cruelty to juveniles, which carries a possible 40-year prison term.

On July 8, a Baton Rouge police officer entered Holland’s house after responding to a noise complaint and discovering evidence of crack cocaine use in an automobile outside the home. Inside, the officer says he discovered the boy having a seizure on a cot covered in feces, urine and cockroaches.

It is unclear whether Holland has an attorney.
