SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a man died after he shot himself in the head during a Sunday morning traffic stop in Midvale.

KUTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1WCe6oz ) that information released Monday by the Salt Lake City Police and Unified Police says officers also fired at the man when they saw the handgun.

The motorcyclist was stopped by an officer around 1 a.m. Sunday for driving recklessly. Police say the man was intoxicated and approached the officer in a “very aggressive” manner.

The officer called for backup. Police say he was able to calm the motorcyclist down, but the man became agitated again when the backup officer arrived.

Police tried unsuccessfully to subdue him with a Taser.
