PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is expected to be charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, whose body was found in the Gila River.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1hlzAWG) 27-year-old Kyit Oo told police he and his estranged wife fought on their way to the river Saturday. Police say Oo struck his wife and caused her to fall into the water, then pulled her out and hit her again.

Detectives say she was lying unconscious on the river bank while Oo left and changed his clothes. Court records say he returned to find her still unconscious and called Avondale police.

Oo was arrested and is being held on a $750,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court Aug. 24.
