BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) - A Broken Arrow man has been arrested in the death of a 3-year-old boy who was in his care.

Thirty-four-year-old Jon Brandon Scarce was arrested Monday night and booked into the Tulsa Jail without bail. He had been charged Friday with child-abuse murder in the death of Chance Trepp.

Police say the boy was admitted to a hospital Aug. 7 with severe head and brain injuries that required surgery.

Authorities say Scarce told police that Trepp had climbed a tree and fallen about 4 feet while Scarce was inside. According officers, the suspect said the boy appeared lethargic and unresponsive 30 minutes later and he took him to the hospital.

The child died three days later.

It was not immediately clear if Scarce has an attorney.
