WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities say a 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of his infant son.

District of Columbia police say Robert Smith Sr. was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree felony murder in the death of five-week-old Robert Smith Jr.

Police say officers were called to a northwest area home on Aug. 4, where they found the infant unconscious and unresponsive. Authorities say the baby was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt-force injuries. Authorities say the death was ruled a homicide.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Robert Smith Sr. has an attorney.
