WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Police have released the name of a man shot to death in Worcester last weekend.

Police on Tuesday said 24-year-old Shane Bennett was the victim of Sunday night’s shooting.

Police say officers responded to an intersection at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of an assault. A group of people on the sidewalk directed police to a grassy area next to an apartment complex where they found Bennett with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The death was Worcester’s fifth homicide of the year.

The city also had two non-fatal shootings Saturday and one Monday.

No arrests were announced.
