WAYMART, Pa. (AP) - Officials at a northeastern Pennsylvania prison say an inmate has assaulted three staff members.

Officials say the inmate assaulted a staff member in the dining hall at the Canaan federal prison in Waymart on Tuesday morning using a homemade weapon. Other staff members responded and the inmate struck two of them with the weapon before being subdued.

The FBI is investigating.

Officials say the injured staff members were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.

In February 2013, an inmate at the same prison stabbed a guard to death using a homemade weapon. Jessie Con-ui is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Officer Eric Williams and faces the death penalty if convicted.

The Canaan federal prison houses about 1,500 high-security male offenders.
