ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they have recovered the body of a man in the Genesee River in Rochester following a two-hour search by divers.

Investigator Frank Camp says a tethered diver discovered the body at the base of the Lower Falls at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The Democrat & Chronicle of Rochester reports (https://on.rocne.ws/1LioT3R ) the body is believed to be that of a man reported to have fallen into the river near the Lower Falls around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police were contacted by witnesses who said the man was leaning over the falls near Maplewood Park to splash water on his face when he lost his balance.

Camp says the body, which couldn’t be immediately identified, was turned over to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
