ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) - A 40-year-old upstate New York man who shot a dog in the head last fall has been re-sentenced after violating probation.

Jeffrey Wood of Newfield was ordered to serve 18 months in Tompkins County Jail for shooting a German shepherd mix twice in the head last September. The Ithaca Voice (https://bit.ly/1Wze7tj ) reports the 2-year-old animal is now blind.

Wood was charged in July with driving while intoxicated, seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and refusing to take a breath test. He also was accused of using racial slurs and threatening to punch and kill police officers at the scene where he appeared intoxicated.

Wood, who was sentenced Friday, will serve about another year in jail because the sentence includes time already served.
