OTSEGO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An organic egg farm that’s set to house 480,000 hens is under construction in western Michigan’s Allegan County.

The Kalamazoo Gazette (https://bit.ly/1J37rdV ) reports the $8.2 million project is being built in Otsego Township by Konos Inc., which is a distributor of Vande Bunte Eggs. Konos vice president of operations Rob Knecht said Tuesday that construction is on track, and that the company is working with municipalities on permits.

Several township residents had objected to the farm at a December meeting. Knecht said the farm will work to minimize odors, insects and wildlife, and will conform to organic standards according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
