NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A Natchez City Cemetery official says human remains have been accidentally dug up from the cemetery.

Catherine Ratcliffe, president of the cemetery’s board of trustees, tells the Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/1Kv9VBQ ) that the remains were disinterred while employees were preparing for a burial and did not notice the bones in the dirt that was piled to the side of the freshly dug grave.

Natchez resident Tabitha Wroten alerted employees about the bones after seeing a photo of a skull from the cemetery posted on Facebook.

Ratcliffe says the 193-year-old cemetery doesn’t have any records of bones being buried in that spot. Because of the lack of records, Ratcliffe says she does not know who the bones belonged to.

Ratcliffe says the remains have since been re-buried.
