GALLION, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama trucking company has agreed to pay more than $112,000 in back wages and damages to settle violations found by the U.S. Labor Department.

The federal agency said Tuesday its investigators found that Fitzhugh Contracting LLC, a trucking and logging company based in Gallion, had failed to pay required overtime to 63 employees and had wrongly classified 46 workers as independent contractors.

The company agreed to pay $56,367 in back wages to the workers and to pay the same amount in damages. The total cost to the firm was $112,735.

Gallion is located about 90 miles west of Montgomery.
