COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A pharmaceutical company’s expansion plans in Aiken County are expected to create 100 jobs over five years.

State and company officials announced Wednesday that AmbioPharm Inc. plans to add 40,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space to its existing property in the North Augusta Industrial Park. The expansion is expected to cost nearly $19 million and be completed in late 2018.

AmbioPharm specializes in making peptides and generic drugs. It established its headquarters in South Carolina in 2007, the same year it opened a facility in Shanghai, China.

The company currently employs a total of more than 200 employees at both sites.

The Aiken County expansion will include a new headquarters building.
