ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A suspect in the fatal drive-by shooting of an Albuquerque teen made his first court appearance a day after turning himself in to police.

A judge on Tuesday set a cash-only bond of $250,000 for 21-year-old Christopher Cruz.

Cruz, who has no prior criminal history, is facing a murder charge.

He and Donovan Maez, the son of Democratic Rep. Stephanie Maez of Albuquerque, are accused of firing shots from a vehicle at a home on June 26, killing 17-year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver.

Police believe the shooting may have been motivated by retaliation.

Maez reportedly was beaten up in a fight a month earlier at the house and a young man at the home allegedly owed Maez’s friend $500 for drugs.
