BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) - The president of Bemidji (behm-IHD’-jee) State University and Northwest Technical College says he plans to retire next summer.

The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1Pz1xpp ) reports the northern Minnesota schools announced Tuesday that 65-year-old Richard Hanson will step down in June 2016. He has served as president of both schools since 2010.

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system chancellor Steven Rosenstone says a national search to replace Hanson will start in the fall.

Hanson has been in higher education for more than 40 years, including a stint as interim president of North Dakota State University.
