BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) - The body of a young Hartford mother who has been missing for more than a week has been found in Bloomfield.

Authorities say the body of 23-year-old Tashauna Jackson was found behind a building on Tuesday afternoon, hours after family and friends and law enforcement gathered to search for her.

Hartford Deputy Chief Brian Foley said it appears “steps were taken to hide” Jackson’s body.

The state police major crimes unit was called to assist.

Jackson was last seen about 11 p.m. Aug. 11 getting into the car of a man she knew. That man is being treated as a witness.

Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra called Jackson’s death a tragedy.
