KENT, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say an 18-year-old Bronx man died after drowning in a suburban New York lake.

According to the Journal News (https://lohud.us/1gVhASc ), police received a call Monday afternoon that a swimmer had gone under water in Kentwood Lake about 150 feet from shore and hadn’t resurfaced.

Officers with the Kent Police Department responded along with members of the county sheriff’s office and Lake Carmel and Kent Fire Departments.

Police searched for the swimmer for about 20 minutes before a dive team from the Mahopac Fire Department arrived and located the victim.

The victim was taken to Putnam Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead. His identity was withheld pending notification of his family.

The small lake is located in Putnam County, off Farmers Mill Road in Kent.
