SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sacramento police say a customer was shot in the ear with a BB gun at a south Sacramento coffee shop when he tried to stop an armed robber from stealing money from a tip jar.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1gY1ozD ) the robbery occurred when a man entered the business armed with the BB gun Wednesday. A customer tried to intervene and was shot.

The robber fled but was later arrested by Sacramento police. The robber, who was not identified by police, was to be charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The injured man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wound.
