GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Gulf Islands Waterpark will lease two additional acres from the city of Gulfport to expand, possibly adding zip lines and rope challenges.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1JgiSOr ) the City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to add two acres of city-owned Sportsplex property to its 18-acre lease with the Waterpark, which features miles of water slides, a wave pool, lazy river and other water-themed activities.

The water park, just north of Interstate 10, will pay an additional $2,767.50 a month - or $33,450 a year - for the addition, which has been dubbed Adventure Park.

Park spokeswoman Betty Wallace, in a news release, says plans for Adventure Park and a construction timeline have not been finalized.
