DETROIT (AP) - A part-time assistant band director at Troy Athens High School in suburban Detroit will remain jailed on possession and distribution of child pornography charges.

The Detroit Free Press reports that a federal magistrate on Wednesday set Sept. 1 as the date for Eric Junod’s preliminary examination and ordered him to remain in custody.

The 38-year-old Junod was arraigned Tuesday. He was fired Monday after holding the band position at the school since 2006.

Police have told school district officials that they don’t believe any inappropriate contact occurred with Athens students.

The case involves a group of people who send and receive child pornography via an unnamed website. Court records show that a user’s Internet service was traced to Junod’s home in Holly, northwest of Detroit.
